What is a balloon launch like?

The gondola (basket) and envelope (the colored fabric part) fit easily into the back of our trailer. The bag containing the envelope weighs over 200 pounds. The envelope is made of ripstop nylon, kind of like a big tent. The mouth (opening) of the balloon is made of Nomex, a fireproof material.

While the pilot gets all the equipment ready, the crew spreads the envelope out onto the ground.

Next, the balloon is filled with cold air from a fan.

When the balloon is filled with cool air, the pilot fires short blasts of heated air from propane tanks. The balloon rises instantly into the air, and the passengers board while the crew adds weight to the basket so your flight doesn't begin early!

And, you're off! The balloon ascends gently, at about the speed of an elevator. Your flight may take you near the Bridger Mountains...

Or perhaps you'll catch a view of Montana State University (Gallatin Range in the background).

When we land, you'll be treated to a champagne toast (sparkling cider also available), snacks and the aviator's ceremony..

Every flight is different, but be assured that your flight
is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
