| recap - Middle Cottonwood / Sypes Canyon Ride, 28 July
2002, Sunday
The day was gorgeous, not too hot, not too cool .... and we didn't get rained on. The bog turned out to be non-existant, just one little muddy dribble down the mountainside to cross, and noone even looked at it twice. Going back and forth over the stream four times gave us lots of practice and reminders about water crossings in general, and by the last crossing our six horses were full of newly reinforced confidence. We stopped for lunch once we topped the steepest and longest of the climbs, and I didn't discover that I'd twisted a knob on my camera accidentally, and screwed up the settings on all of the lunch and scenic overlook shots. Oh well, on the cow clinic, I forgot the camera entirely ..... We had some slipping and missed footing on the rocks, a combination of tired horses and slick shoes; so some of the riders walked over the offending protrusions. We got bird's eye views of Belgrade, Bozeman, and Manhattan from the ridge tops, as well as close up views of new Me-Monument houses built close up to the National Forest. After about 5 hours, we got back to the Lazy Bow, tired, hungary, and happy. |
