| recap-Ferry Creek Roundup - Nov. 2, 2002, Ferry Creek
Ranch, Livingston
After some nasty cold weather, it warmed up enough to have a bright but crisp roundup. First we brought the herd in from a small pasture to a smaller corral. From there we sorted out the to-be-weanlings to feed them through the squeeze chute. The vet and Doc Julie took care of the immunizations, castrations, and picking up the flying pieces of the chute as the calves escaped in creative ways. After all of the calves were accounted for, we separated out most of the cows for preg-checks (another squeeze chute operation). Julie fixed a home-grown beef stew and biscuits with jerky and garden pears for lunch, and then took the more hearty club members on a trail ride, where Josie the mule demonstrated her dislike of heelers mistaking her for a cow. (Organic certified freezer beef can be ordered from Rob: rfors@mcn.net) |
